Equipment Training Class: 100W Laser Cutter, BossLaser LS2440
** DRAFT ** DRAFT ** DRAFT **
Overview
This Equipment Training class is part of an ongoing safety series for members to become proficient in operating machinery at Maker Nexus. It's an excellent opportunity to learn best practices to effectively laser cut materials for your projects.
Classes at Maker Nexus are open to the public, though members enjoy the perk of tuition discounts.
We'll be using the Boss Laser LS2440, 100W, a water-cooled CO2 laser cutter with a Ruida (common and easy to use controller). You'll go home with a laser engraved trinket.
What we'll cover:
- Basic laser safety
- Best practices
- Power, chiller, compressor, and how these work with the laser
- Lightburn, the vector and editing software we use to communicate with the laser.
- Cutting techniques such as vector cuts and raster engraving
Lightburn is highly regarded in the laser cutting industry. However, we do provide several other common programs to edit laser files, such as CorelDraw, Illustrator, and open source Inkscape.
This class fulfills the prerequisite to our BossLaser Rotary Attachment Class.
