Deadnaming

I don't know what this means. Jschrempp (talk)

deadname is the birth name of a person who has since changed their name (especially a transgender person). Deadnaming is refusing to call a person by their name, only by their deadname.

Overall Policy

Materials Move Around

I don't understand this: "Insure materials move around the facility and are stored in a safe and approved manner." Jschrempp (talk)

I found this in one of the Maker Ethics, and it seems to be from the Dept of Labor, Materials and Handling Guidelines. But I recall hearing similar in a couple of my classes. It's to insure when move or store materials, you are safe about it. I've added some examples. For example:

• Don't walk thru the maker space with something dangerous (acid, etc) that's easy to spill. Put a lid on it, etc.
• Don't store an acid in something it can eat thru sometime late at night when nobody is around. Keep it in an approved container. AND Don't store a flammable in an open container.

Can members have guests and if so can a guest touch equipment or tools?

Yes, members can have guests. However, I think insurance coverage will dictate the answer to the second part. What does MN insurance say about guests touching equipment and tools?
Would MN insurance cover if they slip and fell? sew a finger? hammer a thumb? I suspect it depends a little on the tool.

To me this isn't Ethics and Conduct, it's the 'Guest Policy'. If we do allow a guest they are bound by the same Ethics and Conduct. I'd have a separate document for that policy. Sbaker

When can a minor sign a waver and use equipment with adult supervision.

Depends on what insurance says. Does an equipment have a minimum age for use no matter the supervision? A sewing machine is different than a CNC machine. Is there a minimal match. IE 1 minor = 1 adult required? --Sbaker (talk) 03:01, 17 September 2018 (EDT)

Other Questions/Issues for Discussion

• No drinking alcohol on premise?

• 'on premise' may be more than the building because of outdoor activities. I don't want people to leave pets in a car which is another risk.

• Sell, vend, petition, marketing for outside vendors policy?

• Prohibit sexual activity?
