Professionally, I'm a engineering leader and software engineer. See more here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/krbyrd/ and https://github.com/kellybyrd/
I joined MakerNexus in August of 2022 focusing on learning metal machining, but I've also got some interest in woodworking and now the other things in the shop!
General Skills / Ask Me About
I can either help with this stuff or am happy to talk about it.
- Programming Languages: Python, Java, C/C++ Rust, Swift, Ruby, Lua (barely) and probably a few other languages. Application development on OSX, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android.
- IT: Wired/Wireless networking, PC building, Mac, Windows, Unix, iOS, Android. RAID/Storage. VPNs, Virtualization and containers. Network and computer security. A bunch more things that show up in home and enterprise environments.
- Web / Cloud: I'm comfortable setting up and running Internet services on AWS, Google Cloud, or just a dedicated virtual server. Monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana. Generally comfortable with the tech stack and culture needed to build and run large public facing SaaS products.
- Tools and culture around software development: source control, issue tracking, code/design review, communication.
- R/C aircraft (planes, helicopters, quadcopters) and the related electronics.
- Hobby electronics, DC power, batteries, solar power, wiring.
- General radio stuff: I'm a HAM, but have way less practical knowledge about this than most HAMs.
- 3D Printing: Mostly small functional parts. I own a Prusa MK3S, built a Voron V2.4. I know those well, familiar with many other brands and the general technology.
- CAD: Fusion 360, a little of OpenSCAD. I'm a self taught F360 user, but I've spent a bunch of time asking others and focusing on being "good" at F360 makign full use of parametric design, components, timeline, and more! I've started to use it for machining and woodworking projects at MakerNexus. A really small set of projects (hope to put more up over time) are at: https://github.com/kellybyrd/3DPrinting
