I am a professional photographer and entrepreneur. My background is in electronic engineering and I have a BS in Electronic Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

In 2005 I founded The Sawdust Shop, a makerspace for woodworkers, and ran it for 11 years. After closing The Sawdust Shop I became a member at TechShop and was there until they closed. I joined the Maker Nexus Board in 2019 and am the current Board President.

My Skills

Feel free to ask me about any of these topics.

  • Troubleshooter - I was a consultant for many years as a person who could identify root cause issues. I'm able to troubleshoot problems even in areas outside of my expertise by interfacing with the engineers who have the expertise
  • Woodworking - Owning The Sawdust Shop turned me into a master craftsman.
  • 3D Printing - I own a Prusa Mk3 and have created and printed hundreds of items for use around my home and in my maker projects
  • Laser Engraving - I loaned my Epilog Laser to Maker Nexus, so have a lot of experience with it
  • Electronics - I've forgotten a lot but can still do a pretty good job designing circuits
  • Arduino - I'm an intermediate Arduino user
  • MySQL - I've used MySQL a lot for web sites that I have designed.
  • Programming - Proficient in Assembly language, C, Python, and a dozen obscure languages that no one uses anymore (Pascal, Modula 2...)
  • Website backend design - I can't make a web page look pretty but am very good at making it talk to a database.
  • Photography - I teach classes in photography and photo editing using Photoshop and Lightroom
  • Fusion360 - I have a good handle on how to use Fusion360 to make design pretty much any 3D part or woodworking project

My Projects at Maker Nexus

I like projects that use multiple disiplines, and for some reason started making unusual clocks. Most require 3D printing, woodworking, electronics and programming. Here are links to a few I've finished.
