Teams

The board of directors can't do all the work required to open the makerspace. We need your help. We have a list of teams that need members to help, and we'd really like to have someone step forward to lead each. Contact us at MakerNexusBayArea@gmail.com if you'd like to be on one or more teams - or if you see something we're missing. It will take all of us to make this work.

Collaboration Tools

We have standardized on the following tools at this time. As you work with us, we do not want to splinter into a plethora of other tools. Please use one of these or engage the larger group on Slack to discuss a new tool.

  • Knowledge Sharing - This wiki is our method of codifying what we have decided. Eventually our bylaws, policies, training, etc will all be here.
  • Slack - We use Slack for group chat. It is best for immediate communication around on-going issues and conversations.
  • Google Docs - We use GDocs when we need to collaborate on some evolving document. Once a team has got the document to a relatively stable form, the information will be moved to this wiki and the original doc will be unshared; this is to prevent forking and synchronization issues.
  • Google Drive - We use this for storing documents that are not shared widely.
  • GMail - We maintain one account (makernexusbayarea@gmail.com) which is managed by Kirsten.

The IT Team is currently exploring CRM and collaboration tools. For example, CiviCRM and BaseCamp.

We specifically avoid the use of desktop files that are emailed to each other. If you've ever done this before, and who hasn't, you know how easy it is for those to get out of sync and suddenly no one knows what the latest version consists of.
