  • November 2017: First meeting of what was to become Maker Nexus. Eric Hess, Robert Smith, Regina Sakols, Kirsten Winklebauer, Jim Schrempp. Met at Angela Mallett's home.
  • December 2017: James Pistorino joins the steering committee.
  • January 2018: MN incorporated as non-profit in California. First board: Eric Hess, president; Jim Schrempp, vice president; Robert Smith, secretary; James Pistorino, treasurer; Regina Sakols, Operations. Kirsten Winklebauer is on steering committee as social media manager.
  • February 2018: James Pistorino leaves board.
  • March 2018: Heidi Stern joins board as treasurer.
  • May 2018: Ben Klemme joins advisory board.
  • July 2018: Kirsten Winklebauer leaves steering committee, remains an active advisor.
  • July 2018: Jesse Johnson joins the board of directors.
  • December 2018: Bill Drake joins the board of directors.
  • March 2019: Cara Stoneburner joins the board of directors.
  • March 2019: Don Landwirth joins the board of directors.
  • April 2019: Makerspace opens at 234 East Caribbean Drive, Sunnyvale with 40 paying members.
  • Sept 2019: Regina Sakols is hired as Executive Director, responsible for the entire organization
  • October 2019: Heidi Stern leaves the board of directors.
  • October 2019: Barbara Clemmensen joins the board of directors as treasurer.
  • January 2019: Craig Colvin joins the board of directors as a member.
  • April 2020: The makerspace closes due to COVID and a core team switch to making and giving away face shields and face masks to health professionals.
  • July 2020: Maker Nexus has made and given away over 90,000 face shields, and 20,000 face masks, leading an effort involving more than 500 individuals across the US. And played a major role in an expanded effort with a partner that made and gave away more than 250,000 face shields.
  • November 2020: Jim Schrempp retires from the board.
  • February 2021: Ed Yeh joins the board of directors.
  • September 2021: Bill Drake retires from the board.
  • September 2021: Maker Nexus moves to 1330 Orleans Drive, Sunnyvale with 240 members.
  • January 2022: Don Landwirth retires from the board.
  • January 2022: Dr. Abigail Joseph joins the board.
  • February 2022: Regina Sakols leaves as Executive Director and ex-officio board member.
  • February 2023: Jenny Higgins joins as Executive Director and ex-officio board member.
  • February 2023: Justin Leathers joins the board.
  • March 2023: Michael Randazzo joins the board.
  • March 2023: Our membership exceeds 400.
  • June 2023: Eric Hess leaves the management team and the board to become executive director of Hacker Dojo.
  • June 2023: Jenny announces new members of the management team: Robin Salafia (business ops), Myles Barman (youth programs), Jen Harte (business development), and Ginger LaVelle (metal shop manager) join Sara Kramer (general education manager).
  • July 2023: Jesse Johnson retires from the board.
